Chagrin Falls Art Walk

The Chagrin Falls Artwalk was last Thursday and Friday. It was a nice event held on Main St. Lots of people in attendance,there was live music and artists were paired with the local businesses. My work was exhibited in RugTime!, owned and operated by Jonathan Fields. Beautiful oriental rugs. My work plus the rugs was a fine marriage of color and style! Lookin' good. Good enough to sell 3 paintings! Woohoo!!
I met lots and lots of people, lots and lots of friends stopped in. All in all a very fine few days.

strong beech

i've been assisting the geauga park district in a breeding bird survey this summer. one of the great parts of doing this is seeing and hiking through beautiful woods. this beech tree was particularly striking.
yesterday i stayed to paint after we completed the survey. this small oil was painted in the open area. the property we're conducting the breeding bird survey on was a golf course. the grasses are growing tall now and the contrast of trees against grasses is intriquing and beautiful. i hope to get back next week for more painting.

The Deer's Cry and Portal + 8

The paintings that I produced in Columbus last week were cathartic.

It was fortunate that I attended a workshop at the Columbus College of Art and Design for AP Studio Art teachers. The program is outstanding and any teacher of AP Studio art would benefit immensley from this. The people running the show deserve soooo much credit for all they did to make this outstanding. Brooke Hunter-Lombardi and the rest of the gang presented an amazing workshop that included info packed presentations, hands on workshops and presenters that were outstanding.

The best part was the studio. We were all given a space and were expected to produce work. This culminated in a show at the end of the week. The work produced was interesting, thought provoking and of great quality.

More important than the show was the process.. every artist was engaged in their work and it was so exciting to go to the many studios to see what was germinating and growing w/ each person. Plus, I met many, many wonderful, interesting people. Unforgettable.

On a personal level, I was able to begin processing my sadness and feelings of loss for my Dad's death.
The painting in the previous post is titled Suspension. Think about the word and its many applications.

The Deer's Cry is also known as The Breastplate of St. Patrick.

This is written throughout the painting.

Portal + 8: This depicts my family and where we are now; the portal being the entry way my father has gone through, the 8 represents the eight children he had and my mother is represented through the pink color. Also, my Dad loved trees, thus the tree.

What a man, what a legacy.

Dad left us June 9th, 2008.
His departure was peaceful.
We (my mother, brothers, sisters, children) spent many beautiful hours in the days before his death keeping vigil through laughter, tears, storytelling and prayer. This time was extraordinary.
It is an honor to say that Art Scott is my father.

Collage to Painting

This collage was created last fall.


Just for fun and a change of pace, I recreated the collage image as an oil painting. Actually, it was just the urge to paint one night that compelled me to re-create the collage. So there you have it. Some of the images have sprouted from dreams others from the flotsam and jetsam of my collage 'stuff'.

Pottery, a Poppy, no Paintings

There hasn't been much time lately to spend in the studio at home, but I've been producing some pottery at school. (demo pieces and pieces for the fun of it and/or for experimentation w/ glazes and shape) I really like the colors on these along with how the designs work w/ the shapes.
The Poppy is a springtime favorite, especially when they're in full bloom w/ the Irises. This is just a preview.
